The National University of Singapore (NUS) is Asia’s leading university and one of the top few in the world. To better help students gain work experience and also help businesses, NUS launched IAAS as a platform for both parties to mutually benefit each other and also streamline processes.
BACKGROUND
NUS identified that the gig economy of freelance services constitutes an increasing proportion of the future of work, and its growth is expected to speed up even more given the COVID-19 outbreak. Thus, NUS wanted to introduce the gig economy as a way for students to gain work experience, on top of the traditional model of internships.
SOLUTION
We developed the NUS IAAS app to be a 2-sided marketplace for an exchange of skilled service, where NUS students offer their skills and capabilities, and businesses offer well-defined jobs.
Through the app, students can easily find internship opportunities sorted through different categories, review the scope of the internship before applying, and also track their internship progress. For businesses, the platform can allow them to easily list all their available positions, screen through applicants, and track payment.
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT
Both students and businesses stand to benefit from the more streamline and comprehensive platform. The NUS IAAS app allows students to take on jobs and get paid for it similar to real work experiences but also use the opportunity as internship credits which gives them more preparation and resources for life after graduation. Businesses have access to a wider talent pool and are able to get an overview of applicants and open positions all within one app.
