March has been an exciting month with International Women’s Day. We celebrated our Women Who Code by featuring our female engineers. And to wrap up, we decided to feature a few more of our female employees. From Design to Business, here are some of the Women of 2359 who do the amazing work that they do so read on to find out more about their achievements, role models, and advice to other women!

Hi there! Could you do a quick introduction to tell us more about yourself and your role in 2359 Media?

Hello, I am Amanda from the design team. I am the Head of Design, essentially taking care of all the designers and their careers.

When it comes to work achievements, what has been the greatest highlight In your 2359 Media journey so far?

Greatest highlight would be to create a MVP scheduler product in 2 weeks for CNY last year. It was one of the fastest I’ve ever worked with a product manager and developers which turned out to be a fun experience!

As a female in the Tech Industry, have you faced any obstacles in your career path so far? If so, what were the obstacles and how did you overcome them?

I jumped into the UIUX industry without much experience and solely with a digital marketing and graphic design background, so I had to learn much of the UX skills as I went along. It was daunting as I’ve had imposter syndrome many times but I am glad that someone took a leap of faith in me and allowed me to grow to who I am now.

What’s the most valuable advice you have received?

Be the leader you wish you had

Do you have a role model or someone that inspires you to pursue your current field of work?

My current inspiration is the young designers who I am mentoring. Their hunger for growth fuels my hunger as well. I believe that we don’t necessarily need to learn from someone who is our senior, everyone has something to learn from someone, even if they are your junior.

Is there any great advice you would want to give to women that are considering a role in the Tech Industry?

If you think you have the skills and passion especially, just do it! Don’t let your doubts and fear stop you, you must keep fighting for yourself as that’s the only way you are going to grow.

Hi there! Could you do a quick introduction to tell us more about yourself and your role in 2359 Media?

Hey There! I’m Vivi and I’m the Account Manager/Project Manager of 2359 Media! 😉 Two interesting facts about me is that I dance and I have a corgi~

My role in 2359 at the moment is a hybrid of both Account Manager and Project Manager! It is an exciting role as I get to try a combination of job functions. I have always loved getting out of my comfort zone and this journey is definitely a ride 😉 I am on Intuiteam at the moment, so if you are looking for hires within your company for tech engineers, hit me up! Or if you just want to know about us, I would be really happy to share more!

When it comes to work achievements, what has been the greatest highlight In your 2359 Media journey so far?

I think the greatest highlight of my journey so far within 2359 Media itself is to project manage exciting apps for the healthcare and education industry! Some notable names include Singhealth and NUS! Such projects of a larger scale allow me to work with many different people and I enjoy the time spent with my team. It definitely isn’t easy and without the right environment and teammates, you can easily get burnt out. The support within 2359 Media is amazing and the trust given to each other to take ownership and complete tasks is something very revitalising as I do thrive off good camaraderie. Don’t you think the right environment allows you to blossom even faster? 😉

As a female in the Tech Industry, have you faced any obstacles in your career path so far? If so, what were the obstacles and how did you overcome them?

I think so far I have not faced any major obstacles. I know it’s easy to say to keep to the positive thinking. However, I do think that 2359’s environment was great in providing me with cushions such that if I do face “major” obstacles (subjective isn’t it?), there will always be advice given as long as you ask.

I guess one key worry I always have is that I came in with little tech background. The learning curve is high, but as long as you are willing to learn, I do believe that anybody can adapt to it. Although…a lot of hard work is still required! 😉

What’s the most valuable advice you have received?

“Whatever you face, someone else has faced this issue before. Your situation is really not that special”

If we think about this in a pragmatic way, the problems we face at that very moment are often seen as huge and cannot be easily resolved. We tend to think that the situation we have on hand is special, or we are special, and probably only we are facing this problem. However, in actual fact, they probably occur more often than not, and I’m sure at least some other people have faced it before! So it’s best to just ask for advice and you might get a solution after all!

Do you have a role model or someone that inspires you to pursue your current field of work?

Hong Ting and Chelsea of 2359 Media! I got to know them personally and their mentoring skills and how they build the systems of the company are what attracted me to pursue this current role. For someone that did not have much of a tech background to jump into such deep waters, it was quite scary!

Is there any great advice you would want to give to women that are considering a role in the Tech Industry?

I do believe that as long as you are considering it, you need to try it yourself. We tend to push ourselves to think that we should always know what we want to do/achieve in our careers. However, I do believe that we will probably know what we don’t want to do much more. But that’s only after you give yourself the time/chance to try it out. It can be daunting for sure, but believe that you are much much more capable than you give yourself credit for! 😉

Hi there! Could you do a quick introduction to tell us more about yourself and your role in 2359 Media?

Hey, my name is Seanna and I’m currently the Business Lead for Intuiteam, 2359 Media’s Manpower Augmentation Business Arm. We enable clients to tap on our tech talents to achieve their envisioned strategies and digital transformation projects. On top of that, I am part of the Talent Operations team, striving to create a high-growth and meaningful employee experience. Outside of work, I enjoy going to the beach, playing recreational sports and travelling to tropical places.

When it comes to work achievements, what has been the greatest highlight in your 2359 Media journey so far?

It would have to be my recent Chief of Staff stint, where I had the opportunity to work closely alongside both the CEO and COO to support them in planning and executing strategic initiatives. I deemed this as my greatest highlight in 2359 Media as this role was a real eye-opener for me. Not only was I pushed to be comfortable with ambiguity, I was also given a good amount of autonomy to experiment and learn, knowing that I had support from the management team.

As a female in the Tech Industry, have you faced any obstacles in your career path so far? If so, what were the obstacles and how did you overcome them?

I personally don’t feel that the challenges I faced in the Tech Industry were attributed to my gender specifically.

What’s the most valuable advice you have received?

One advice that has been deeply instilled in me would be the importance of setting and honouring strong boundaries for myself.

Do you have a role model or someone that inspires you to pursue your current field of work?

No specific role model at the moment. But, I generally look up to those who are able to showcase both vulnerability and authenticity in their leadership style. It is inspiring because I know it takes a great deal of courage to accomplish that and I want that for myself one day.

Is there any advice you would want to give to women who are considering a role in the Tech Industry?

There is no need to feel intimidated just solely by how male-dominant the Tech Industry may seem. Regardless of gender, everyone in this industry is on the same journey when it comes to keeping up with the latest technologies and industry best practices.

Hi there! Could you do a quick introduction to tell us more about yourself and your role in 2359 Media?

I’m Chelsea, and I’m currently the Chief Operating Officer in 2359 covering the people and process side of things. I also take care of new ventures as and when they sprout!

When it comes to work achievements, what has been the greatest highlight In your 2359 Media journey so far?

Establishing the team and creating what is known today as Articulo with them was the most rewarding journey of my career thus far. To have a team that dove deep into the mechanics of becoming a great chatbot platform for our users was incredible. Though we had limited success, the learnings we all accumulated along the way were invaluable and personally, have been the foundation of a lot of the work I do today.

As a female in the Tech Industry, have you faced any obstacles in your career path so far? If so, what were the obstacles and how did you overcome them?

I haven’t personally experienced any inequality or obstacles in my path due to my gender, or perhaps I choose not to see it that way. I think it was important for me that I first saw myself as being on equal footing with the men around me, and to stop subscribing to old tropes and stereotypes about what women should be like at work. In essence, I made sure I wouldn’t be my own glass ceiling.

What’s the most valuable advice you have received?

Recently, the book ‘Wolfpack’ by Abby Wambach has been my choice of book to send to women in the organization who are about to step up into leadership or managerial roles. In it, she talks about a concept called ‘leading from the bench’ — with the central idea being that if you’re a good leader, you’ll lead from wherever you are, be it the field or the bench. That has taken a new meaning for me now that I’m asking more of my team to step up!

Do you have a role model or someone that inspires you to pursue your current field of work?

As strange as it may sound for a futuristic industry like tech, my role models are typically historical figures. Empress Wu Ze Tian, for example, or late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew have built incredible nations just by putting the right people in the right places so they can reach their full potential, and their nations were better off for it. This, to me, is an art form that endlessly fascinates me, and it’s something I’ll likely spend my career trying to do at a high level.

Is there any great advice you would want to give to women that are considering a role in the Tech Industry?

There is no one way to get to where you want to be – growth is a process you must trust, even if it means learning to let go or to wait. Don’t fixate on any one way of getting there, open your mind to different possibilities as that means you’ll have that many more options in achieving what you want to.
